Urban Compost Tumblers
Urban Compost Tumblers offer some of the best value in the compost tumbler market. A center axle mounted drum design, there are no cranks or gears to break or rust.
Urban Compost Tumblers come in 2 sizes, the 7.5 cubic foot design is easy to handle, and is adequate for many home gardeners needs. For those with a large garden or landscape, the larger 9.5 cubic foot design will handle the higher volume of waste.
The Urban composters have a unique center aeration tube. The key to accelerating any compost bin is getting oxygen into the active part of the pile, and this unique patented design does an excellent job. It's this airflow that's critical to the rapid decomposition of the waste in the bin.

Fully enclosed, and mounted above ground, they are virtually rodent proof, and the right height above ground for both loading and unloading.
Probably the single most common complaint with the center axle design composters like the Urban composter is the fact that the weight distribution will shift over the composting cycle. As the compost matures, is reduces in volume, and becomes denser. This in turn takes what might have originally been an easy to turn mix like leaves and you end up with a mass at one end, making it a little more difficult to rotate. This is more of a problem for smaller people, especially women, but many people have no problems at all. If it's a concern it would probably be best to go with the smaller UCT-7 model, which doesn't hold as much material.

Finally, with all the fully enclosed composters it's more critical to get the mixture of materials with the right amount of green to brown materials. There is less help from the local earthworms and natural drying that you can get with a traditional bin, so be especially careful not to put too much "green" material in the composter.
